A fugue constructs a piece via the presentation of a cross section across multiple parts-at the head, and through the powder-selectively distorting the fluid verse through a range of sectioned structural layers. In a way, it is a transposed form of the virtual. The fugue is a form that cradles and conceals. Here, the space of the dance holds within it a theme, examining and responding to an infinite number of versioned parts. Outside the fugue, a multitude of variants follow the path of projector light. It is a ginger machine, I am constantly growing back on myself.
DWYER KILCOLLIN (b. 1983, Chicago)
These sculptures are made using a process that mimics the operation of a popular 3D printer brand. I am interested in the correlation between the action of the printer and our shifting relationship to objects generated amidst an increasingly dominant language of images.
Dwyer Kilcollin received her BFA from Washington University in St. Louis (2004) and her MFA from the University of Southern California (2013). Recent shows include solo presentations at The Armory Show (New York) and Reilly Gallery at Smith Center for the Arts (Providence, Rhode Island), and group exhibitions at LAXART Public Art Initiative (both Los Angeles), a solo museum exhibition at the Santa Monica Museum of Art and a solo exhibition at American Contemporary (New York). Dwyer Kilcollin lives and works in Los Angeles.
JESSE STECKLOW (b. 1993, Massachusetts)
This group of works is engaged in a larger circulatory system of air sampling where sculptures collect volatile material in their space of exhibition, which is analyzed and used as a basis for new works. The artworks present a cross section of this project and are specifically engaged with the chair works of Dwyer Kilcollin.
Jesse Stecklow received his BA from the Design and Media Arts program from UCLA in 2014. Recent shows include Trios, a solo exhibition at Retrospective in Hudson (New York) and a group exhibition he curated at Chin's Push, a project space in Los Angeles, that was anARTFORUM "Critics' Pick" this summer. Other group exhibitions include CLEARING (New York), Martos Gallery (New York), Favorite Goods (Los Angeles), David Shelton Gallery (Houston) and William Arnold (New York). Forthcoming projects include his first solo exhibition at M+B (Los Angeles), a solo exhibition at Praz-Delavallade (Paris), a solo presentation at The Armory Show (New York) and a group exhibition at Galerie Xippas (Paris). Notable press includes ARTFORUM, The New York Times, MOCAtv and Dazed and Confused. He is a member of Jogging and the co-founder of the design studio Content is Relative. Jesse Stecklow lives and works in Los Angeles.
(OFF)ICIELLE, FIAC’s new event, will be held in Paris from Wednesday, October 22nd through Sunday, October 26th , 2014 at Les Docks - Cité de la Mode et du Design. The Vernissage will take place on October 21st.
The event will host approximately sixty French and international galleries specializing in contemporary and emerging art on a surface spanning 3 700 m2.
(OFF)ICIELLE will showcase new territories: young galleries and newcomers to the international art scene; emerging artists and those whose historic contribution has been overlooked. The event will provide visitors with the opportunity to discover galleries whose exhibition programs demonstrate a particular aptitude for decoding the language of contemporary creation and a gift for revealing talents, old and new.
The Selection Committee was composed of exhibition curators and prominent art world personalities who are recognized for their broad artistic, intellectual and geographic horizons.
A programme of outdoor sculptures and installations, artists’ performances and films together with an innovative cycle of conversations will be presented in conjunction with FIAC’s celebrated Hors les Murs programme in the Jardin des Tuileries, the Jardin des Plantes & Muséum National d'Histoire Naturelle, the Place Vendôme, the Banks of the Seine and in the amphitheatre of the ENSBA (Ecole des Beaux Arts de Paris). Les Docks - Cité de la Mode et du Design extends the public promenades along the Seine to its rooftop gardens overlooking the river. The ensemble inscribes itself within the urban landscape as an open space conducive to exchange and diversity, culture and recreation; a veritable rendez-vous for Parisian creative forces.
